A public vote is required for a low-rent subsidized housing project.
Article 34 of the State Constitution requires a public vote for a state or federally funded low income housing project.
While city staff knows this they are spending probably a million dollars on the continuing dog and pony shows they’ve been putting on since 2023 for the MCSP. I think that there’s a better than average chance that the voters will turn down such a project.
Why doesn’t someone point this out so at least the city would be forced to tell what kind of evasion strategy they’ve cooked up to avoid a public vote. Otherwise we are riling up the Moraga Canyon neighbors for nothing, and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars that could be doing something useful, like paving our streets and fixing our sidewalks.
