City Council’s Shameless Lack of Accountability

The City Council and Administrator have turned the pool project into a $34.9 million comedy of errors—except taxpayers aren’t laughing. Delayed updates, blown deadlines, and a feel-good video masquerading as progress? This isn’t leadership; it’s institutionalized incompetence.

Don Chandler’s council comments exposed the farce: smaller cities with tighter budgets routinely deliver projects on time and under budget. Meanwhile, Piedmont officials treat deadlines like New Year’s resolutions. Their slick video isn’t transparency; it’s performance art designed to distract from the real scandal—why each “update” reveals new delays rather than progress.

The Administrator’s role should be ensuring projects stay on track, not serving as cheerleader for failure. “The finish line is in sight” is meaningless when you keep moving it.

Piedmont deserves professionals who respect deadlines as much as they enjoy spending public money. Until then, expect more excuses—and higher bills.
