October 7th – Never Forget

On October 7, 2023, modern day Israel faced an unprecedented crisis which will forever change Israel. On this day a horrific narrative will be ingrained in the hearts of people around the world.

A Palestinian militant groups, led primarily by Hamas, launched a wide-scale operation named “Operation al-Aqsa Flood” against Israel from the Gaza Strip. This operation was a meticulously planned invasion that plunged the region into chaos. It began with a massive rocket barrage, where thousands of missiles rained down upon Israeli soil, causing significant destruction and loss of life. Soon armed militants infiltrated Israel employing various modes of attack from vehicles, boats to paragliders. Israeli towns and military installations near the Gaza border became war zones.

Hamas massacred innocent families in their homes and deliberately targeted children. Children were placed in burning ovens as their parents watched and then the parents were executed. Children were forced to watch as their parents were tortured and executed and then the children were  executed. The terrorists raped and mutilated women.  Hamas scurried hostages across the border into Gaza —  these Hamas hostages held foreign passports from 25 different countries, including the USA. It is believed as of today, 97 hostages are still in Gaza — sadly unknown if they are alive or dead.

One of the most heart-wrenching events of this invasion was the massacre of 364 people at the outdoor Supernova Sukkot outdoor music festival near Re’im.

Remembering October 7th is not just about the pain and loss but also about the unwavering Israeli spirit. As a Piedmont community member, I commit to remembering this day in support of my Jewish Piedmont friends and neighbors.

As with September 11th …… NEVER FORGET!
