Student Wants More AP Classes
Hunter Fasteau: You are NOT my voice on the Piedmont Board of Education!
As a student representative on the school board, your role is to express the desires of the Piedmont student body as a whole and offer the school board insight. At a school board meeting, you passionately expressed the stress you were under from AP classes along with the peer pressure from your friend group for not taking a certain AP class — BUT so are other AP kids but they WANT TO take AP classes and will work through the stress.
Personally I choose to take AP classes – not from pressure from my friend group – but because I know that I will have a larger choice in colleges if I do. I want PHS to offer more AP classes because I want variety and choices. If PHS limits the number of AP classes then what does that say about PHS as a whole when compared to, say, Oakland Tech? That PHS is full of a bunch of wimpy entitled rich kids that can’t take the pressure of AP classes? Let’s not go down that path!
In life, we all have choices and just because something is offered doesn’t mean you have to take it. Sometimes you just have to say “no”.
With academics, sports, volunteering and managing friendships –life as a PHS student is really really hard and stressful but life is going to be even more stressful in college. Can you imagine if PHS did not prepare you for post-high school academics then you can multiply that stress factor by 100!
It’s super sad that I have to write my comments anonymously because if I don’t my peers seeking to limit PHS AP classes will target me, along with the teaching faculty.
PS: Thx PiedmontPOV for having this platform so silent voices can be heard 🙂
