As a parent and resident, I find it unfathomable that the Director of Facilities, Peter Palmer, earns significantly more than our teachers. I understand that Mr. Palmer has a large task to maintain PUSD facilities, but we have to keep in mind that he has a staff that report back to him — he is not out in the elements pushing a broom, fixing a fence — he is sitting behind a desk delegating tasks to his maintenance staff.
Futhermore, Mr. Palmer failed at completing Wittier Field in a timely fashion. I understand that construction deadlines are difficult to meet but I feel that Mr. Palmer was lacksy daisy in his will to prod the contractors along in completion. If this was a construction project in the “real world”, Mr. Palmer would have promptly been removed from his position and replaced. The school board was too permissive during Mr. Palmer’s presentations as for the delay in the project.
As for the teachers, I see so so so many impactful teachers that are worth much more than the higher earning teachers. At what point can we place the useless teachers into the pasture? Oh, wait, that’s not possible because of the teacher’s union —-thank you school unions for destroying the education that our children receive — NOT!
